One of my favorite ways to beat the summer heat is with ice cream, and wouldn’t you know that July just happens to be National Ice Cream Month! What a treat!
When National Ice Cream Month was established in 1984, President Ronald Reagan himself said to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.” With that said, I have compiled five ways you can celebrate National Ice Cream Month with your family and friends.
1. Host an Ice Cream Social
Whether it’s a family reunion or simply a gathering of friends in the backyard, come up with a fun ice cream theme. Have guests bring their favorite homemade ice cream. You could even incorporate a contest for the best ice cream concoction.
Here are some ideas to help embellish your party.
2. Try My Favorite Ice Cream Recipes
Plain vanilla just doesn’t cut it when there are so many wonderful flavors out there to be made! Here are some of mine. What are yours?
- Kow Kastle Ice Cream – Farm Family Favorite
- Cinnamon Walnut Ice Cream
- Peach Custard Ice Cream
3. Think Outside the Cone
Ice cream can be more than a scoop in a cone. Why not create an ice cream cake or a homemade ice cream sandwich?
4. Create an Ice Cream Sundae Bar
Forget the sandwich buffet and finger foods for bridal or baby showers; instead, try setting up an ice cream sundae bar. It works for birthday parties, end of school parties … come to think of it, any summer party! Have a variety of ice cream flavors, toppings, dishes and cones ready for a sweet build-it-yourself dessert bar.
Here is a little “Pin-spiration” for your own sundae bar:
5. Make Ice Cream In A Bag
Love homemade ice cream but don’t have the time or the equipment? No problem! Just one zipper bag and a few common household ingredients are all you need to make a delicious treat that will delight and impress. Here’s the recipe.
